Someone just tried to scam me on Craigslist. Im selling something on there and got an email that said, Hi, Please get back to me asap if this item still available for sale. Thanks
At this point I was about 90% sure it was a scam, cause for one they dont say what the item was, two there email address was a bunch of random letters, and three it just sounds fake. I debated whether or not to reply but I did just incase it was real. And then got this email this morning lol,
Hello, Thanks for the prompt response to my mail. Hope its in good condition? and i'm assurinring that i will be buying this item from you, so please kindly withdraw the advert from CL. to avoid disturbance, anyway I don't have time to come over to take a look because Of my Business but you don't need to bother yourself with the shipment, I'll Take care of that by engaging the services of a shipper, Please to be informed that I will pay you with a certified bank check and once you have the check cleared and cashed at your bank then I will arrange for the pick up at your place. I will need the following details to mail the payment to you as soon as possible. Your full Names, Your Mailing Address, be it Residential or Office address (Not P.O.BOX), Your Phone numbers both land and mobile Lines, Please get back to me ASAP. thanks brown
This scammer isnt very talented, this type of scam has been around for years. Ive gotten another one like this before. They send you a fake check then when you go and cash it theres no money and your responsible for paying the money back to the bank. Im thinking about giving them a bunch of fake information. My names Harry Potter, I live on 4321 Scammer St., Scamville, MI, 67890. My phone numbers 567-765-scam.

My brother in law got scammed on Craig's list in a similar way. Super Bowl tickets a few years back. The guy met him in a near by restaurant parking lot and gave him a cashiers check for the tickets. The cashier's check was a fraud. The people sitting in "his" seats bought the tickets from the guy that ripped my brother-in-law off. They bought the tickets for twice what my brother in law sold them for. He just went to the game and sold them in the parking lot of the stadium. Because of this, I will never take a cashiers check, or a check for that matter for transactions with people I don't know. Pay-Pal or Cash.

Im thinking about what I should reply with, Im thinking about giving them a taste of their own medicine saying something about my long lost rich uncle has suddenly past away in Nigeria and wants to give a bunch of money away but they need to send the check somewhere else instead, I know to scamville.

When I was raising capital for some people a few years back I'd get all kinds of scam artists that supposedly represented princes or wealthy indivduals in some obscure location the needed to get their money invested in the US. It was an annoyance at first, but I actually got pretty good at scamming them back. I got a scammer to send me $10K. LOL. I turned it over to the FBI with their contact info. I reported about a half dozen others and was told INTERPOL was setting up stings. I never heard how any of the cases turned out though.

All his money is secured in Nigeria, inorder to get the money I need you to forward the check in cash to this address- 4321 Scammer St., Scamville, Nigeria, 67890. Incase you need to get ahold of me my phone number is 1-800-YOU-SCAM. My name is Harry Potter. Scamming the scammers Im interested in what he will reply back with.

I doubt you'll get a reply. He/she has likely moved on to the next victim.
