Just when I was thinking about picking up the TV FA-18 from HLI they pull this baby out of their hat: www.hobby-lobby.com/sebart_mig_29_red_star_plane_w_gyro_1035405_prd1.htmTwin counter rotating 70mm fans. An optional gyro to control yaw. Doesn't look like it has anymore of a landing system than skids. Since you should be able to land it on a dime that's probably all you'll ever need. They didn't demonstrate any fast flying in the vid but with a 1.25 to 1 thrust it ought to be pretty quick as well as areobatic. They say it's 7 plus channels, but I bet you could do it with 6 and some mixing. I'll check that out, one of these days, if I get lucky enough to have one.

That looks awesome, but that's one REALLY high dollar foamie EDF!!! Almost 200 bucks more than the F-18?
And NO LANDING GEAR? It looks to me that you will rip off the elevators if you don't land perfectly flat. Hand launching only seems a bit tough by yourself with something that big.
Maybe I'm missing something... === For me, I'd be much happier upping the power of the F-18 to give it hovering ability, then add a gyro if needed. And have awesome retracts and the ability to land safer to boot! Kent

I was thinking about the same things kent.
Is is very pricey. I think the lack of a landing gear on th 29 is really a weight issue and probably wouldn't perform as well with retracts. Of course more power solves everything. The added power and retracts would cost more of course.
I don't think there would be much of an issue with tearing parts off on landings. I've been flying belly landers for a few years and haven't torn anything up landing them.
They certainly could upgrade the FA-18. Let's hope they're working on a V2.
