The power plug wires broke off of the rx on my 4Site micro bipe after 105 flights so I pulled the rx off the plane's "fuselage" and soldered them back on. With a 50/50 chance of getting the white and black wires in the correct place... I was wrong. Smoke started coming off the rx when I plugged the 3.7v battery into the newly soldered plug. Unplugged the battery ASAP. I just knew it was fried but decided to heat and pull the wires off and switch positions and try again. It WORKED. The linear servos still worked and everything looked good. I had placed a small piece of 2mm shrink wrap wire over the black the wire and tried to shrink it with the wife's hair dryer. Being 2mm it just wasn't getting as tight as I'd like so I decided to used my heat gun for shrinking Mono Kote. That shrunk the tubing nice and tight. I turned the rx over and had a cow, not a calf, but a full grown cow. The heat from the heat gun melted both of the linear servo casings like the icing on a wedding cake left in a hot car in August for four hours. I just HAD to cinch the heat shrink tubing up just a fraction more!!! A ball peen hammer and the flat surface of a vise fixed what was left of the rx for good. At least I now have 2 spare linear servos from the ailerons if I should need them for my other foamiest. On the UP side, after 105 flights I had just replaced the motor with a new one and got it fly it one time before the wires broke off. Without the baffled air brakes installed and with a properly functioning new motor, that airplane hauled butt like I had never experienced. It hovered pretty decently too. It's just a memory now though. God, I hate being stupid.

Hi canewalker welcome to our forum. I liked your posts from the old heli forum. Anyhow, who would have thought the hairdryer would have melted the servos? Not me. I would have had a look on my face. 105 flights on the 4site. I only got a few on mine before the motor quit. Got it replaced and the same thing happened. You did a lot better.

Howdy Canewalker!!! Welcome!
Good story! Yep, those Monokote guns get HOT, and the plastic they use in these little planes is not high temp tolerant for sure. BIC lighters work well for the small heat shrink. Or your soldering gun. Kent

Hey Canewalker. Good to see you're still active in RC and welcome to our little group. There's a few leftovers here from the RCDiscuss days.
