That does look awesome!
I actually have a 1/3 scale Byron Christen Eagle with a Saito 270 four stroke twin. But it has the other color scheme. It sits in my bedroom! It has never been flown and the engine has never been started.
It is circa 1980.... Kent

Interesting. How'd ya manage that? I built it way back then! I then got out of the hobby when my kids started popping out. I got back into it when my youngest went off to college a couple of years ago. I even still have a .60 sized Kalt Baron helicopter that I could never even hover. It sure is a relic! It has a Futaba gyro in it that is huge! Fun old stuff. I'll have to take some pics... Kent

Please do Kent. I wish I had pictures of my first RC stuff from the 50's to share. It would be a real museum exhibit. LOL

I just started working on it again today. I had a lot of Medical bills (co-pays and deductibles) to dole out but I'm back on track. I mounted the engine and I changed the placement of the throttle servo. Someone in this thread suggested it, and I saw the need. I have the engines electronics working but not mounted. I won't get to that before next weekend. I'll take some pics and post them up. I'll be running off of one battery, a 3S 2200. I'm using a Castle BEC Pro to keep the servo voltage to 6V (Hyperion DS20x UMD's in the wings and SMD's on the tail). I'm running a Wike Ignition Battery Eliminating Filter from the Aux 2 channel into the ignition. www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/WRCIBEFV2.1.htmlThe IBEF filters and reduces the voltage. It seems that ignitions don't like lipos all that much and the IBEF solves that problem. I'll be tying Aux 2 to a switch on my radio so I can turn the ignition on and off from the radio. So I did a lot of fiddling and figuring today. I programmed my servos and BEC, cut some holes, and mounted my engine. I'll be breaking in on the plane without wings for the first two tanks, and I'll be using an 18X8 prop. I'm debating 3 blades or two.... three blades with a chrome spinner would really look cool. I need to get back into the sim. I haven't touched anything in over a month.

Good to hear things are getting back on track for you. We've missed you around here. I trust your son is doing OK. Looking forward to hearing about the break in. The last motor I broke in was a cox .049. That was close to 60 years ago. Time flies.

I'm at work now... got some time between my groups so I thought I'd write a little about what I've been doing with the Pitts.
The electronics have been a little slower than expected. The bay in this thing is huge so I've really spent some time working out placement. The engine I'm using is larger than the recommended engine size so I'm worried about it being nose heavy. I'm going to add weight if I need to, but I'd rather push all the electronics as far back toward the tail as i can.
I do have all the electronics working correctly, and all I really need to worry about is placement and milliamps. An 800 mah battery is what should be used to run the ignition, and a 2200 should be good enough for a rx pack. Since I'm only using one pack... I'm a little worried that the 2200 won't be enough. I don't really want to spend money on another battery. I know in my Gasser Heli, I can run a 2200 for close to 4 hours (theoretically), but i'm adding two extra servos (7 total) and the ignition. Any thoughts? I don't want to dead stick this the first time out.
Anyway, hopefully Sunday's the day I fire it up. I have to work all day tomorrow and Monday.... Paying back some comp time.

I know I said I'd try to have it started by Sunday but work and other things got in the way. Hopefully tomorrow is the day. It's pretty nose heavy though... I'm a little discouraged about that. Anyway I'll be sure to video it a post it up.

That sounds awesome! Humm. Nose heavy really bad? If it's not too bad, then it should still fly fine. Nose heavy is better than tail heavy for a maiden, for sure!
Get that film rollin for the maiden! Kent
