But, I agree, Atlanta has got to be the worst. It's a giant hub. It's almost impossible to get through there without a delay. ... or running. I've never been through O'hare, but I've been to most of the biggies.... Atlanta operates outside of reality. "I'm supposed to be at which gate in how much time...?"

I got snowed in at O'hare and the trip to Maui ended up taking 36 hr's. Spent quite a bit of time in Denver, LAX and Honolulu on the way. But, I agree, Atlanta has got to be the worst. It's a giant hub. It's almost impossible to get through there without a delay. Hahaha...Funny. I went through the de-icing at Ohare but no big delay but a few hours later,I was seriously delayed in Gander Newfoundland for ice. Had to walk the tarmac about a half mile in an ice storm because we were forced to de-plane on the runway. Long trip from Columbus Ohio to Chicago to Gander to Frankfurt Germany....Home for Christmas from the Army. Never came home for the holidays again after that.lol... When I was first sent to Germany,we flew out of Atlanta and went straight to Frankfurt in something like 8 hours. Never made another trip to or from Germany in under 24 hours after that. Flew from Pittsburgh in a twin engine prop plane once....That sucked. Made the same trip in a jet once and that flight never even leveled out....Leave Pittsburgh...Climb to altitude and almost instantly start the descent to Columbus International in Ohio...45 minutes or something like that. Crazy.lol...

I did a lot of air travel in the 70's and early 80's. It was really great for the most part. They actually served real meals; steaks and champagne on some flights. You weren't required to be an Olympic runner or have a time machine to get between gates. If a flight was delayed overnight they put you up in a hotel. You got meal vouchers too. And this was in coach class. 1st class was treated as if they were Sultans. As they say, "The good old days."
Somewhere between then and now, the whole industry has been taken over by Machiavellian sadists who ensure you don't have a second of relaxation, much less enjoyment, from the time you circle the airport searching for parking, to the time they spit you out at your destination; which may, or may not, be where you were ticketed to go.
If you are fortunate enough to arrive at your intended destination; you have won a small lottery if your luggage gets there before it's time to go back home. And, all that, for inflated costs and on a timeline as predictable as the second coming.
What's that you say? Fares are going up and nothing larger than a tootbrush is considered a "free" carry on?
I'm taking a frickin' Greyhound bus. At least they don't strip search you.

Amen.
If people for one week said "screw it, I'm not flying," you'd see things change. As it is now, it takes an act of congress to get more asswipe in the lavatory. The minute you start voicing concerns on an aircraft you become a terrorist, and get put on a black list.

Speaking of terrorists: We were waiting in the boarding line for a flight a few years after 9-11 and we stood there watching security wanding the carp out of a feeble 90 year old lady as a guy that looked EXACTLY like the shoe bomber get's whisked aboard like a VIP. With security like that we're lucky a plane doesn't get jacked every day.
