I've be looking forward to seeing how the new UMX's fly with the 3 axis gyro stabilization system. In particular, the R2, which, with normal flight controls, is not a very stable airframe. I set up a video flying review with my buddy Tim Tinkerman at the school. First up was a review of the plane and then a quick circuit of the gym. The plane flew great, but it seemed a little too fast for the size of the space. At least to fly comfortably. The wind was howling outside. 15-20 with strong gusts. What better conditions to test the the real value of the AS3X stabilization system? Tim was a little reluctant to fly the R2 in the windy conditions. Having flown many micros; Tim was concerned that the power wouldn't be enough. Could this little plane handle that much wind? I reminded him that this was a brushless set up. Not a brushed. Power shouldn't be an issue...I hoped. I wasn't all that sure this little plane wouldn't be blown away. When he put the plane down on the asphalt it started blowing backwards. He looked up at me with a questioning look. I said, "Go for it." The plane took off with no effort. Climbed out into the buffeting wind. You could see the AS3X system working as he made circuits. Making corrections as quickly as the wind tried to send it off course. Tim made a number of circuits and got it on the ground safely. We were all impressed. Tim should have a video up on his channel soon. tinkermanrc.com

That truly is the ultimate test of the AS3X system!!
I saw one of the new UMX Beasts fly with that system on Sunday. The gusts here were maybe 0-15mph crosswind! I would not like to fly my regular UMX Beast in that!
Well, he took off and was doing circuits and even doing touch and goes with that crosswind!! The wind had zero effect on that plane. I was blown away. This was the first gyro version that I had seen.
Wow is all I can say! I do have a UMX Stryker that doesn't need that system! It's solid in any wind, but it's pretty darned fast! I was doing boomerangs into the next county!
I still can't believe that the Geebee actually is flyable! That thing is like flying a rock! Kent

Here's a link to Tim's R2 video. www.tinkermanrc.com/About the only thing he suggested with this plane was to add some elevator Expo. He thought it was a little too twitchy. I haven't flown it yet, but I usually agree with Tim's suggestions. Hey kent, I also hear the new UMX Beast is stable as a rock in windy conditions.
