Yesterday my kids got me a Great Planes PT-60 trainer for my birthday www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma0119.html. I told them I wanted a kit that was good for a first time builder and would spoon feed me a bit. They said the guy at the LHS said the PT-60 was it. It's a box of wood for sure... just what I wanted ;D. In the manual, it's states I should start looking at an engine straight away manuals.hobbico.com/gpm/gpma0119-manual.pdf. I would like to go with a small four stroke gas engine, but if not possible, definitely a 2 stroke gas engine. Any Ideas?

That plane same size as my big telemaster which I am running the 46 size engine But I will keep n eye on the suggestions for the engines as I might be upgrading the engine

Congrats on the new plane! While I'm no expert on noisy engines I hear the EVO's are good for the money.

You might want to look at the Saito engines also Doz. I have a 45 on a telemaster 40 and it pushes that thing along at a pretty good click Here's a link for you: saito-engines.info/index.html

Thanks guys! As usual, extremely helpful. I've not been considering glow engines because I'm really wanting to use a four stroke gasoline engine. It's seems the smaller they are the more they cost. My Zenoah G230 was only $195. I'm guessing I'll need somewhere in the 17cc range for gas, and that would be a .60 glow equivalent. Even though an 0.S. .60 glow engine is 11cc, you lose power from glow to gas. The little four stroke gas engine I want will cost $400+ and I can't see sinking that into a trainer I'm going to build... fly a few times and hand over to my son. I'm dead set against glow power... they rip you off for the fuel. So I'll probably just find a small 2 Stroke gasoline engine. I'm thinking about a DLE 20 and just shoe horn it in. According to some of the threads I've read, you need the extra weight up front anyway, because PT-40/60's are built extremely tail heavy. Someday I'll get my four stroke

Went ahead and ordered up a DLE 20 www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DLE20ENGINE.htmlThe price wasn't too bad. The engine doesn't come with mounts. I have some plastic ones that came with the Pitts so if I can use those, I will. The dimensions look good, but I'll have to tune from the bottom which will be a pain. The engine weighs 23 oz. The recommended engine (0.S. 60FP which is discontinued) weighs 18 oz. and Great Planes considered it a perfect match. I'll also have to deal with the rear carb, and perhaps having to move the firewall back. Worst case scenario... I'm FORCED to buy the Gee Bee R3 kit from troybuilt and I'll put the 20 in it. I would be heartbroken </sarcasm>

Sounds like a good choice considering the alternatives. If you are forced to buy that Bee Gee, so be it. You really have no choice in the matter.
