I am always reading on the web how a lipo catches fire burns down the garage or house and I always wonder what the person did to the battery to make it burn up ?
Well today I found out the answer for myself I was sitting at my computer with my back to my model shelf to much as I am doing right now When for no reason at all the 3500mah 6s battery in my 500 went up in smoke in the house . Mind you this battery is 2 years old with a fair amount of flights on it hk battery this battery has never been in a wreck always balanced charged at 2c I was able to get it outside and out of the heli before much damage was done to the house or the heli then there came the problem of getting all the smoke residue out of the house big industrial fans from the shop helped and tommorow the elbow grease goes to work washing sheetrock I guess what I am trying to say is keep your eyes on those lipo's this could have turned out a lot worse than just a little airing and scrubbing I consider myself very very lucky at this point and dam glad to be able to write this

That's really scarey Phil. I've never heard a reliable report of spontaneous combustion before. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad you and your house are ok, it makes me rethink the way I store my lipos. Were you charging the battery at the time or did it just go up in smoke when you were storing it?

It was in storage charge. Been sitting in the heli all winter and it just decided to cause a lot of excitement in my house which it succeeded to do
