Yesss check out some of Doozer's builds made out of balsa wood. I myself have two planks that are made out of balsa.

If you mean build from a box of wood? yep, many people still build them. Chances are if you google the kit, someone will have a build for it. If the wingspan is 28" I would consider making it electric so you can cover it with Solite or some other brand of ultra-lite covering. Solite is not fuel proof. You'll probably use tape hinges for that as well. Post the build up with pics if you can. I've only built one, and I'm getting ready to start on my second, but I'll help where I can.
Tips:
- Don't be in a hurry. It's good that you have another hobby that you can do (EVE) while waiting for things to dry. -Cover the plans with wax paper so you don't mess them up. -It's not how much glue, but where you glue that matters. - use the right tools for the job. - don't eat yellow snow.

thanks for the input dooz, and i will defiantly consider going electric with it. i was really hoping to use the gaser on it but, if it won't work it won't work lol. i was just hoping to use it cos i already had it. i will definitely post pics of the progress. i been reading the directions and studying the plans for the time being just to get my head wrapped around it. actually looks like it's going to be a fun project can't wait to get started on it. yellow snow?? you mean that's not lemon flavored?? *scratches head*
