I bought my first decent charger today, an Icharger 206B capable of charging up to 20 amps. Now I need a power supply, something that's atleast 300 watts. I was looking at Progressive RC's 350 watt power supply. But was wondering if there is a way to build your own power supply out of say a computer power supply?

Ton of DIY pc power conversions on youtube. Read the comments before you choose one.

Thanks Doozer, I might build one eventually. Or I could buy one for $60 and not screw around with it. But, look what I found laying around in my basement! She's ancient, but this baby still works. She weighs around 15 pounds so it's not practical for racing, but when it's sitting in one spot in my shop it will work fine. It used to be my cousins from when he used to race rc cars back in the day and left it when he moved out.

Score!! Nothing like finding what you need under your own roof. Very cool. Attach a handle to the top and you can do some concentration curls while you charge Yeah, I thought some of the DIY power supply remedies looked pretty sketchy. That's why I commented about reading the comments. While I was watching one, the guy who's building it says, "don't touch it or you might get burned." That was enough for me. Somebody like Ray could do that in his sleep, but for me to do it... I'd be so sketched out every time I plugged it in that I rather just pay the money.

No kidding haha this thing is heavy.
I love doing DIY stuff, but don't want to risk burning myself or the house down haha. Building your own sounds sketchy indeed. This power supply will work for now, first race isn't until May so I have some time.

Building one from a computer power supply is a walk in the park 300 watts is only about 3 amps but the one you have is a great find if it goes up in smoke I have a few you can have.. Ray

Thanks Ray, the more I use this power supply, the more I like it. The Icharger 206B came in the mail today, it charges great. The menus are very similar to my Thunder Ac6 Charger. It's really nice to be able to charge up to 20 amps now. I'm charging my Gens Ace 2s 5000mah battery as we speak(or type). I was worried the power supply wouldn't be able to handle charging at 20amps, but I tried it and it worked fine. The little dial only got up to 16 amps. I'm considering just using this power supply permanently, it's one of the older ones back when they made stuff higher quality. The one you get for $60 is a cheap chinese one. I'm really excited about this new charger and the capabilities of it! I feel so powerful Muhahahaa..
