First I would skip the x-treme 380 motor. It has been known to blow your Rx. If you decide to go this route, you will definately need to install ATO fast blow fuses. Goto: www.rtf-heli.com/Falcon40fusemod.html Buy plenty of fuses as the heli will blow its fuse often. The brushless route is much better as you will never have to replace the brushes as there are no brushes and hence the motor is very efficient relative to a carbon brushed motor. No more heat sinks are required as these motors stay luke warm at most. This also means you can fly all day as you just need to swap the LIPO battery in/out. While other competitors claim to be kits and may cost slightly less, they are not because they are not fully integrated. We have basically done all of the soldering work, ESC programming, JST power plug installation, and pre-wiring. We include all the necessary hardware like the motor screws, Rhino Steel hardened 11t pinion, and the nylon ties. All you have to do is just install using a screwdriver for replacing the carbon brushed motor with the new brushless motor, install the grub screw pinion, and follow where to connect the various connectors with the provided instructions. My kit costs $89.99 which is $20 more, but everything is pre-wired and ready to install out of the box. With the other kit, you need to wire everything up properly. You also need to buy additional items like the pinion and install it on the motor, you then need to test for the proper direction of the motor, program the ESC, etc. In addition to that, the brushless motor being sold is too strong for a regular E-Sky HBFP and will cause spinning when flying as the tail motor will not be able to compensate for the stronger brushless motor. My kit will work perfectly with the current tail motor. No need to get a DD motor which is still not brushless and costs more. Hope this answers your questions. Below is a video for the a modified E-Sky HBFP 72Mhz version with a brushless main motor. This kit will be available on March 16th, 2009 and will cost the same as the Exceed Falcon 40 brushless Kit. -Happy Flying !!!

I really like the Xtreme 380 for a carbon brush motor it has more power for less money than anything out there having said that I would have to agree with RTF the power drain of the carbon brush motors is very noticeable the brushless is the way to go in the long run you will save some buck's and a lot of headache's Ray

Ok thanks rtf, I have the 2.4G version so I think I might wait a bit to see if you come up with a kit for that one, because you have to do something different right? Whats the highest lipo you can go up to with the 2.4G version?

I don't know since I have only the E-sky HBFP which I just bought to do the brushless mod on. The heli can handle an 11.1v LIPO. With regards to the 2.4Ghz Tx on the newer HBFP I am current;y asking around. I'm running out of money to buy more helis.
So far, I have bought and tested for a brushless conversion:
Exceed Falcon 40/Walkera #4 E-Sky HBFP 72 Mhz version Exceed Blazing Star/ Walker 53#1 Exceed Raptor G2/Walkera #36
I'LL have to get back to you on that.

Another question, if I just go with the 380 motor for now, what pinion size would the shaft be on it? because i want to get a bigger tooth size so it runs more smooth. Also what is the stock tail shaft size for the pinion?

I would use an 11t pinion. Typically, on a standard 370 carbon brushed motor, the shaft size is 2.0mm. I'm not sure what the shaft diameter is on the 380 X-treme motor. But you need to get a pinion that has 11t and match the shaft diameter. So, on the 370 motor, look for a 2.0mm 11t pinion On the E-Sky HBFP 72Mhz version, if you want more power, you can just get the 11.1v LIPO Battery and change the 370 motor to one that uses an 11t pinion. The 380 comes with a 9T removable pinion so you could stick another one on if you want. I find I have been getting plenty of power out of the 9T it comes with so depends on how you want to fly it. It basically changed the power enough so I could get up and hover at just over 50% with the Guru-Z frame, metal head upgrade and fiber reinforced blades, a huge difference from the stock motor at about 70% just to get airbourne.
