Sounds good BT! XMHobbies is the same as the www.cnchelicopter.com. But you saved shipping! Very good! Those guys ship quickly. Inifinitely faster than stuff from China. What, all you have left is the tail servo? Cool! Kent

That 4 pack of Hitec servos is awesome!! I have to wait til next week before I can order stuff though when the money comes through. I just busted a cyclic servo on my T-rex with a blade strike. It was only a towerpro though so no great loss. At least it has prompted me to now replace the whole set to Hitecs, and with this deal I will have a spare one!! Just hope they don't sell out now...

I am going to get the CNC tail assembly, also. But I have to take at least a little pause. I am going to be out of town when all this stuff hits the door. Don't want my wife to get too much sticker shock. ;D

BT. Keep an eye on that 11 tooth pinion that comes with the Alpha. It may work well on your 450, but it ate the gear on my G2. And the gear ate the pinion too. It was pretty ugly. I think it's the pitch on the pinion. No amount of spacing or aligning fixed it. The 13 tooth worked better.
Happy landing

Anyway, I ordered this set also: www.xheli.com/exi-31150.html

Mine came with both the 11 & 13. Did you confirm that the other order fits a 3mm. shaft? That's the only size that fits the Alpha 400 motor.
Happy landings

I based my 13 t idea on what was pictured. And of course I didn't check the shaft size before I ordered. I was clicking stuff as fast as i could think of thinks in the middle of the night.... Not a good idea. But only a couple of dollars if they don't fit. I am out of town and all my stuff should arrive this week before I return. I got Hitech servos all the way around, the cheapo gyro and a Futaba receiver. I still need to order a CNC tail to prevent the issue akent had. I think I have everything on the way to make this thing fly. Let the fun begin!

BTcat, we always try to keep the cost of flying low. I understand that. But it actually is cheaper if you can invest in the HS-65mg. These metal gear one are indestructable. I went through at least 18-20 crashes and they're still good. I got these for $28/each shipped. The plastic version strips easily. If you already bought those, get some metal gear replacement and put them on when you go down. (No fliers want it but it's inevitable). Dealextreme.com has some gear replacement and servos as well. Buy 3 or more and get greater discount. For tail servo, HS-81 will work. You want something that is .09 sec for speed minimum.

I'll start a new thread when I get back into town and off this sorry link I have right now. Briefly, though, I am going to take your advice and get some metal gears for my HS-65 Servos. I already bought: Gyro – G401B Servos, Cyclic – HiTech HS-65 Servo, tail - HiTec HS-5065MG Receiver – Futaba 7 channel The servos are not as fast as you mentioned. I'll give it all a shot and see. Not sure I have enough experience at this time to even notice the differance. I'll have to wait until the next upgrade to see .... Can't wait to get this thing in the air. I am a couple of hundred miles away and most of my parts are already at the house. It is going to be a loooonnnnnggg week ;D

There has been a lot of discussion on other forums about tail servo speed.
The normal speed for tail servos is said to be faster than 0.1 seconds for 60 degrees.
Well, I bought a couple of the HD2216MG digital servos that were mislabeled to say 0.08sec. A whole lot of folks were using them on the tails of helis and were very happy with them. Then the real speed was posted. These are 0.14 seconds at 4.8v!!
But they work great on the tail!!
I had one of these on my Exi T-450 and a couple of weeks ago swapped it out for a Futaba S-9257, which is an uber fast digital. There is no difference in flight or tail holding.
I personally think that it's NOT the speed that is the issue, but the reaction time of the servo. I personally believe that the tail servo needs to be digital so it responds quickly. When you think about it, the gyro is giving a ton of very small movement commands to the servo all the time. The original servo I used (the HD2216MG) is still on my Exi SE, and it works great. I'm leaving it alone.
The HS5065 servo is also digital, and should work just fine.
Just my 2c. Kent

Also, I forgot to mention that I'm also running the HS65HB's on both of my Exi's. I would have bought the MG's but six of them was another 60 bucks on top of the HB's that I really didn't want to spend at the time.
You can also upgrade the HB's with the MG metal gear set, if they ever strip out. The servos are otherwise identical. I have seen them for around $12 per set. This is one reason I didn't worry about it at the time.
I have never seen the MG's for $28! That's a great price! The cheapest I've seen them is $35, I think. Kent

Good deal on the Futaba Rx, BT. About $25 lower than what everyone else wants for them.
