I hate Deans connectors. I absolutely hate them. They are good once you have them attached, but I think they are either poorly designed, or of poor quality when it comes to soldering. There is not enough surface area at the solder point to allow a good heat transfer without being on the verge of melting the plastic, especially with the larger gauge wires.
I am threatening to switch to another style before I get too far into this hobby. I've seen other types, but haven't really given them much attention. Any of you use something besides Deans?

I still like the Deans.I did however use 3mm bullets for a spell.Just had to plug in two wires instead of one.

I actually have used those. They worked really well. That's what my LHS sells.
I only started using the Deans because one or another of my helis came with them already installed. At one point I had three different types of plugs and just wanted to be able to share batteries among the helis. Deans is what I had the most of at the time.

I may give them a shot. Better to change now than when I have more batteries set up. I can solder the deans okay using the "reflow" process Finless describes, except when it is 12ga wire with the super fine strands. The flow and the heat transfer are more difficult to accomplish without melting something. I hate that

Your timing couldn't have been better. This was the notice on the front page at Hobby City regarding Deans or T connectors. I'm thinking there may have been a patent violation. Now, for anyone with batteries from Hobby City past and future, they'll have to choose which connector to stay with. " Discontinuing T-Connectors 18/05/2009 10:03:07 AM Due to legal reasons we have no option but to discontinue our range of t-connectors, including connectors pre-soldered to batteries or wiring. In future we will be providing the new EC3, EC5 or 4mm Bullet connector on all batteries and urge our customers to adopt our new standard. " If you're thinking about using the EC3 connectors, here's a link on how to put them together. I may try them just for curiosity sake. www.horizonhobby.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1768

Looks the same as Align with same procedure shown, only male connector. Dlan

I imagine the procedure is the same for both male and female. They do make mention of the two parts in step three.
I'll find out soon enough as I've purchased a few to try. If all the Hobby City LiPo's are going to come with EC3 connectors, I may as well get into it. Maybe make up some adaptors for the Deans configured LiPo's I have now.

Hey Sol, Hobby City sells adapters to go either way with it. Cheap, too. I found them this morning. www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8331

Thanks, BT. I did find those about 38 seconds after clicking submit on the order for the connectors. There weren't many connectors left in stock, so I rushed a bit to get a few. Plus it was late. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;D

Eflite makes a beautifully designed connector in 2 and 3mm. They solder very nicely and the fit is perfect.
Happy landings

I also like the e-flite connectors I put them on my blazing star after having a connector problem and did not like the looks of the deans connectors. The nice thing about the EC3 connectors are you dont need heat shrink you just solder them in and snap them into place plus with a round connector you have more surface contact area. Ray
