OK, so I have no self control or restraint. I did it, I ordered and Trex 250 kit, which should arrive next week. I got it all stock align motor, servos, GP750 gyro and a couple of outrage 860 mah batteries and AR6100 Rx. After building the 500, I realize how much I really enjoy building these things. I was going to wait, but I really wanted this thing. I'm also getting married in less than 3 weeks, so I wanted to grab this thing before we do the whole merging of income/debt. Ain't I a stinker?! Anyhow, I'll try to get some pics of the progress of this build and some flight videos as soon as I get going on it. In the meantime, I've got a whole bunch of yard work to do so it's all done by the time the kit arrives. I won't be able to let it sit there and gather dust.

Sounds great, RCD! I've eyeballed those as well. They sure look like they are great fliers.
I have read that the screws have a tendency to strip if barely overtightened, which can be easy to do.
It will be interesting to hear your take on that little feller!
We look forward to your build! Kent

Thanks Kent, it should be a fun build. The kit comes in Thursday, so I'm guessing I'll get started on Thursday and I'll probably be done by Saturday afternoon. Knowing me though, I'll probably stay up late finishing it on Thursday.

Well, I told the fiancee that I will be MIA on Thursday night, so I'm hoping I can get it finished by then and let you guys know. I've been watching the build videos and trying to learn the ins and outs. Sound like there is no set screw for the pinion and I'll have to glue it on, as well as watch the torque I use on the tiny screws. I learned a lot building the HK500, so I think I'm ready.
Wish they had a 250 on the Phoenix flight sim. Been flying the 450 around, trying to get back to the feel of a smaller heli. These things certainly look like fun though. I hear they can hold pretty well in the wind considering their size too. So far I love the Align products that I have, so I'm looking forward to some fun with this little guy.

It should fly pretty good in a breeze because what it lacks in size and mass it makes up for in power.
Happy landings

Alright here we go, the kit came in during my lunch break. Here is the whole package: The box was smaller than I expected, as well as the rest of the parts that were inside the box: I didn't have a lot of time during my lunch break, but I was able to get the head stock all put together: So now I've just gotta get through the rest of this day and get home so I can finish this baby up. This thing is pretty damn small, a lot smaller than I expected. I can tell that messing with these little parts is going to cause many curse words to come out of my mouth tonight.

I think I remember seeing that video Sol, Doozer had some good control of that thing. I still have to get mine out to a bigger field, but, it's now official finished. Just like I thought, I cracked out on the build last night and finished it in about 5 1/2 hours. I spend significantly less time looking for dropped parts compared to what I've done in the past. I finally have a nice desk and a white cloth to work on, saves a bunch of time. I did spend some time undoing some things because I forgot something. Really could have done this build in 4 hours if I was on top of those things. Any way here are some pics of the final product: And here are some videos. First one is the first throttle up and test hover. This thing was trimmed out perfect and I didn't have to adjust a single link. Using those calipers to measure the links is the way to go. Here's the first official outside flight. I had to bring it out this morning to get a quick flight and video before work Final thought, it's a pretty nice little flyer. As I had been warned, the hex screws strip very easily. Some of them seemed to be stripped already in some of the pre-build parts. I know that my first crash is going to be a huge pain to do repairs, not quite sure how I'll get those screws out, being that the hex indent is now round. I might have to bust out the dremel and then go purchase extra screws.

Good stuff, RCD!
How does that little guy handle compared to some of your other helis? It looks pretty stable. Kent

Once it's trimmed out, it is pretty solid. It requires just a little more concentration when compared to a bigger heli. I haven't taken it out in much wind yet though, so I might have more to say later on. It's definitely a quick lil' SOB, as soon as you input on the stick, it moves right away. I'm not as nervous when I'm flying this thing because I don't have the underlying feeling that if something goes wrong, someone could get seriously hurt. Which is good, because if my hands were all shaky while I flew, this thing would be all over the place, lol.
All in all, I like it! Very impressed with the stability and power on such a little heli. I had no problems getting it nice and smooth. On top of that, I really enjoyed building it. I'm starting to think about getting kits, building them, and selling them as a BNF kit, all someone needs is their transmitter. That might be what I do in the winter time when I can't fly.

Well, I guess that's it. I will have to get one for my birthday. ;D r/c check your local clubs. The 250 will be perfect for flying in a gym warehouse, etc.. BTW, sol is working on a list of clubs and events, so we can all get hooked up. Until he's finished go to www.amadistrictvii.org/minnesota.html and find a club near you. Happy landings

There's a couple clubs near by, but it's mostly older folks that fly nitro planes, mainly fly-bys. I've got a huge field near my house that is always available and I don't have to wait for anyone else. I'd like to find another heli flyer or two near by who I can go fly with, but I'm not much of a club guy myself.
19k, you are going to love this thing. It is slowly becoming one of my favorites. It makes my skill go way up, the inverted flight on these is stellar, and there's little or no damage from hard landings. I've abused this thing in the last week more than any heli I own, and it's still ticking.

That's amazing, RCD!!!
Ok. I officially MUST have one now! The parts are pretty cheap, too!
It will be a while though, as I just finished up (and crashed) an Esky ES600 (E-smart).
