After reading elk's concern about Banana Hobby in the Dealer Review thread, I was left with some questions.
I have very little knowledge on jets, so I have to ask...What is the attraction to this particular company? Is it the 90mm EDF, the manufacturer or the material they are made of?

A 90mm fan is a big fan. These are big fast planes. They are super well detailed too, for foam, and pretty rugged.
The smaller, 64 & 70mm ones are pretty neat too.
The fact that you can buy them as kits and add your own electronics is fairly rare in the EDF part of the biz.

OK, was just wondering what the attraction was to make someone buy there when the reviews are so poor.
BTW, HobbyCity is starting to get in large EDF jets. They have a F-86 with a 92mm fan. 1410mm wingspan and ARF. With more to come.

Just the fact that they have stuff that is difficult to find elsewhere. But, it's kind of like sticking your hand in a dark hole. You never know if you're going to get bit by something. ;D
Problem ordering that kind of stuff from HC is that I think they have big shipping fees due to oversized boxes. Am I wrong about that?

I'm an EDF NUT!! I like warbirds,,,I was a fighter jet mechanic for 20 years,,most of which was on the F-4E/Gs. The jets at BananaHobby are big,,,90mm EDFs that run on 6S batteries. I ordered the F-4E.
I had one 64mm EDF F-4 and it was a toy,,,,not very stable. Then I found the 70mm EDFs at HobbyLobby that ran on 4S batts,,,these jets are GREAT. Fast and stable with great scale look and performance. I have snow-skis on my F-4E and I'm having a blast.
I'll get my big F-4E from BH on friday. It also comes with retracts. The sale price was $550 but most of that was the battery,,,,since I have several 6S batteries for my helis,,that knocked off $250 by ordering without a battery and another $50 for no Tx & Rx. Pretty good deal. I'll let you guys know about the quality when I get it. I read all the reviews,,good and bad,,,and decided to take a chance. You just can't find that jet anywhere else.
HobbyCity has a couple good EDFs,,,,they have a Swiss F-5E that is a 70mm and retracts for about $150,,thats a good deal. But the shipping will gets you,,,,still a good deal thou. HC also has the Flying Shark,,,,I have one,,,it is AWESOME!! It flies just as fast and stable as my 70mm jets but it is 64mm and runs on a 3S battery,,,,the Flying Shark is about $130 AFTER shipping,,,,that is very much worth it. I have skis on my Shark too,,,way too much fun!!
If anyone has questions on EDFs,,I can help!!
Randy

Thanks for the update Randy. I'm looking at the Shark too. Keep us posted. I think there will be quite a few guys that are interested in EDF's.

Happy landings Big shipping fees depends on which country you're in. If I, as a Canuck, buy a large item from HC, I get it cheaper (shipping incl) than 95% of the US retailers. Usually a minimum of $50 cheaper for like items. You CONUS buyers have the benefit of cheap shipping from the US suppliers.

OK,,,I got BIT!!! It took 10 days to get here and it's the wrong jet. I ordered the Jolly Roger F-4E and they sent me the Blue Angels F-4E. I spent 20 years working on F-E/Gs in the US Air Force,,,I don't want a Navy jet. As expected,,,BananaHobby has NO customer service. I spent 3 hours calling 3 different customer service numbers with no answer. After 1 1/2 hours on their live-chat support,,,I finally got someone who just gave me an e-mail address and told me to send a picture. It's late friday,,they aren't open on weekends,,,monday is a holiday,,,,geeeeez,,any bets on how long it will take to get a reply by e-mail? On the lighter side,,,,the jet looks fantastic. Well made,,,very well detailed,,,the motor looks awesome,,,and the retract landing gear look torpedo-proof. I measured the battery compartment,,,it will fit a 160 X 50 X 53mm 6S battery,,,thats huge. I have a 4500mAh 6S battery that will work and a couple 3300s. I 'think' the jet is worth the hassle,,,but geee,,,how hard is it to send the right jet the first time? Oh well,,,,in a holding pattern again!!

Ugh. What can you do? No CS. I'm making no bets on the email reply. Well at least it's the right plane if not the right service branch. Hope it flies well. Don't think I'll order anything from them. I was thinking of an F86. Too bad. Happy landings

My F-35 only holds a 2200mah 4S and I had to care out the battery compartment to the very edge. Total flight time from takeoff to instant voltage drop (falling out of the sky) 3 min and 44 seconds. I'm not the happiest camper. The best jet I have seen is the Parkzone Habu. You get about 6 or 7 good minutes on it, it does about 70 or 80mph and its Parkzone - need I say more?

Gabe,,,here's how I solved that problem; www.helidirect.com/hyperion-2600-mah-148v-35c65c-lipoly-pack-p-13084.hdxIt is just a 'hair' longer than the stock 4S 2200mAh batteries that come with most these 70mm EDFs. It's a little pricy but it will get you over 6 minutes on your F-35. I have 3 of them and because they can be charged at a 5C rate,,with my 10A charger I can charge it in 13 minutes. I DID get a reply from BananaHobby,,,,they issued me a UPS return shipping label and UPS will pick it up on Monday. As soon as they get verification that UPS has this one,,they will ship me the correct jet. We'll see. I'm not giving up yet! I'll give them one shot to fix this before I start an all-out-internet trash campaigne against them.

Oh Gabe,,,,,I agree,,,that Parkzone Habu is awesome. Especially for maintenance,,,their wings and tail are screwed on,,not glued. I looked hard at it too,,,but the 90mm F-4E is bigger,,supposed to be faster,,and was just a little cheaper than the Habu.

Whoah! 90mm?! Dang that's huge!
I wish I could fit anything bigger in the compartment, but the battery is almost pushing through the foam in the duct. Thanks for the tip though Elk.
