Which of these planes do you think will be faster? Stryker F-27C specs: Manufacturer: Parkzone Wingspan: ~37" Length: ~29" Weight: 15.5 ounces w/o battery. Motor: Parkzone 1880kv inrunner. Prop: APC 6x4 ESC: 30 amp Parkzone. Battery recommendation: 2200ma 3s 30C. F-22 Grayson Powered specs: Manufacturer: Kent via plans from RCgroups. Wingspan: 24" Length: 34" Weight: 9.6 ounces w/o battery. Motor: Grayson 2200kv outrunner. Prop: APC 6x4 ESC: 30 amp Volcano. Battery recommendation: 1300 3s 25-35C. (rec by me to keep it light) ==== So, which do YOU think will be faster? I hope we can find out sometime next week! NOTE: I have not flown either of these, yet!

Kent, you need a 30C battery for the Stryker to perform at its best. I got my money on the Stryker.

I'd have thought the Stryker with the higher C battery, but if you look at how light the F22 is and the higher kV motor, there is a good case for it. So, I'm going with the F22. Are you going to use a radar gun?

Just Put them on the same frequency and go Not sure about a winner. I'll bet, if you don't have a gun, a set course and timer or some other engineering wizardry, it will be too close to call.

Oops, the Stryker will run a 30C battery. Actually, the F-22 will run a 25-35C. I don't have any 15C 2200s! My 450 runs 30Cs only.
Hey, I like the idea of just flying both at the same time with the same radio, BT!
I'll post videos of each as soon as the wind dies down... I hope the winner will be obvious. Otherwise, I have heard of some doppler software that can work from videos... Kent

Of course, it would probably require a second person.

thats kinda funny, i have a cop that lives 5 houses away, and some kids were running there rc cars, and got out his radar gun and clocked them. the speed limit on the road is thirty. and the kids cars were doing 45mph. no tickets were issued ;D

Too bad there isn't another pilot to do an actual race with.

That could be a tough one...but I'll go with the F-22 too. Simply by the pitch speed it should be much faster. It should come in somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-240 watts or roughly 400 watts per pound and be MASSIVELY over powered depending on which Grayson 2200kv motor you have.
I don't know the specs on the PZ motor but aerodynamics could play a big roll in this too and the Srtyker does look a little more slippery than the F22.

Well, I finally maidened both birds today at the Austin flying field. The lake has continued to rise, and there is not enough room to fly here any more. Floats are high on the build/buy list now. I can't use those though until I get at least one of the boats running! ============================================ And the winner by a landslide victory (well, at least it held together) was the STRYKER!!! This thing is FAST! I can't believe how stable it is as well. Whoever designed this deserves a large pat on the back! ============================================ I flew the Grayson powered F-22 and it launched and flew well. I gave it some go fast gas and within about 3 seconds ripped one of the elevons clean off! I think that happened maybe from flutter. It was really funny handling just before the elevon came off. Well, these don't fly well without an elevon. It smacked in pretty hard into the runway pavement and tore up the nose. The servo was ripped out, too, and it's wires hit the prop, cutting them clean in two. I think from the time it handled funny at maybe 30 feet up to hitting the runway was maybe 1 second. That was the end of that.
These are just not designed for speed of any serious kind. I have decided to remove the Grayson and put this plane in the spare parts bin, for when my first one gets totalled. It's foam is torn up but easily fixed.
Now, what to do with the Grayson Super Sonic motor!! It does draw 23 amps on a freshly charged 3s battery with an APC 6x4, so that's roughly 275 watts!!!!!! So, you are right Tony, the F22 was massively overpowered. I'll stick to the little 2730-1500kv motors! Those draw around 10 amps with an 8x4 prop on a fresh battery. So a 120 watts is much better. These still have unlimited vertical with that motor. They just don't fly very fast. These really are too much fun flying slow! They have no bad habits at all.
I think I may put that motor on the Stryker now. It should really scream on 3s!!
I am completely amazed at how well the Stryker flies. It is REALLY smooth. I never even tried low throws as high throws fly GREAT! And the thing just floats in to land. I came in hot on the first landing and it didn't want to land! I think it will land at probably walking speed! And it never did stall. Amazing.
Well, I learned not to try to make EPP fast.
I would be interested if anyone else tries this! Best, Kent

Oh, and I was planning on videos after each of the maidens today. Well, after the F-22 was toast, I didn't video either one. Sorry about that.
I was hoping for a better showing from the F-22. Kent

If you have not already you should check out RCFoamfighters on YouTube. They build some insanely fast EPP planes. www.youtube.com/user/rcFoamFightersThey give stuff away every month too (motors, ESCs,...) so subscribe to their channel to find out when and what you need to do.
