Thrust angles can be tricky. I really found them coming into play with bigger motors and higher speeds. Hope you get it resolved because that plane sounds like it's a blast!

Hopefully the thrust angle on my cub wont be too far off, I made the mount last night and its pretty noticeable. Oh well we'll see on the maiden here in a few days.

Selecting the thrust angle is as much about prop size and pitch as it about the motor. I'm running an 11x8 on it today so the thrust bias might be worse rather than better than the 11x6. I just want to see if the 11x8 is better for the hover. If it's not, then I think I've hit the wall in terms of what I can do for proping a 10 motor to be both fast and provide all of the 3D capabilities. The next step would be a 15 that has more torque.
RC, I don't think you're going to have any problems as long as you've got the thrust angle close to stock. The stock wing has so much lift it cancels much of the thrust angle effect.

Before I head out to the field today here are a few pics. It's a work in progress. I'll make a few additions and changes later this coming week. I will eventually make some CF wing struts. In this photo is a stock strut shortened and terminated with an electrical terminal CA'd to the strut and screwed in place.

Whoah! 19K, that's an incredible paint and decal scheme!
It's extremely well done. Kudos my friend!

Thanks guys. It's been fun dolling her up. Real good visability too.
Put on a flight demo for my little adopted family out at the rec field today. Grandpa and Grandma are in from Colo. Gramps is and old school sailplane guy. The electrics blew him away.
The 11x8 really flew nice. It's a relatively flexible electric prop as opposed to the stiffer 11x6 MAS sport prop. Almost got a hover. Great high alpha.
With a little more aileron throw the rolls are axial and at a good rate.
You can turn a knife edge into a loop.
It also will do a regular loop in just about the length of the plane.
I haven't done an outside loop, but I'm betting it will be very tight.
Top speed is well over 60 while the landings are about 2mph.
A little more development and this could turn out to be my new favorite plane.

Thanks, Kent and Fire.
I took her back out and did the outside loop and inverted.
It's takes a little effort keep it inverted due to the asymetric airfoil. It really wants to roll out of it.
The vertical is virtually unlimited. I flew it out of sight cut the and throttle cranked the rudder and did a hammerhead.

Good stuff! Unlimited vertical vs speed is the common dilemma. I personally have planes for both. The unlimited vertical is a super cool feeling when you're flying. It's really a huge comfort factor for me - and s feeling of power

What I was aiming for was a good compromise on all flight characteristics including vertical and top speed. And, so far, I'm very happy with it.
Still more to do with proping it for a hover. I think I'll try some APC slow flyer props for that. Not being a prop expert this is a real hit and miss part of the project for me.
My wife came out to see it fly. My adopted family showed up too. Having seen my cubs in various stages of development as well as my other planes: The wife thinks it's the neatest plane I've built so far. I think I'm with her on that.

I flew it again this afternoon. Another picture perfect fall day of colorfull trees, crystal clear blue skies, 77 degrees and low humidity. Wind 1-2mph. I'm afraid we're going to pay for all of the great fall weather sometime this winter. ;D
After a few adjustments, I found that the plane just about flies it'self inverted with about 1/2 thottle. Too much throttle and it wants to roll out.
About 2/3rds throttle seems to produce the nicest knife edge.
I still haven't changed the prop for hover. Maybe I'll fly it one, or maybe two more times, before I change the prop. It's hard to mess with such a nice set up.

The more I fly this plane the more I appreciate how versatile it is. Fast, slow, vertical, knife edge, inverted, whatever: it's just a blast and I always feel in complete control. Any crazy thing you want to do and then just cut the throttle, let go of the sticks and it rights itself and flies and lands like a stock cub again. Maybe better than stock. I highly recommend these mods. But, you won't believe it until you do it.
