Howdy Moparmyway! I have seen some of your posts over on the big forum. Welcome to our little one here!
I don't know if you have read about my leetle fast Funjet.
I'm running: Turnigy Typhoon 36mm 1800 motor (hotrod 500 helicopter motor that can handle a LOT of watts) Castle Ice 100 ESC Turnigy Nano-Tech 2200 6s APC 6.5x5 pylon racer props
I have been staring at my #3 Ultra and thinking the exact same thing about the hinges!! I never had much of an issue with those other than them ripping off (crash #2 at 100MPH+++ into the parking lot!). The foam on the Ultra is too stiff and brittle to be reliable hinge material, I think.
I weighed the HET 2w25 motor with a 5s 2200 40c and it is only 2.5 ounces lighter than my 2.3kw 6s setup.
So, I'll stick with my 2.3kw setup. I actually raced the guy in north Austin with a HET 2w25 5s powered funjet. His name was Jimmy. Maybe you know him. He was running his with an APC 6x4 sport. He was clocked in the mid 160's before. I was just as fast as his, but no faster. This was a race between north Austin (Jimmy) and the south Austin (me). Judges were lots of folks in the audience. We were deemed to be the same speed! His turned more RPM, but mine had more torque. That was FUN!
Thanks Mopar, for the launch ideas! I actually can see that. I'll try the vertical launch, ugh, if I have to do that again!
Thanks! Kent

On my heaviest FJ, I run 6s5000 with a BIG 36mm motor. It only has a few flights on her, mainly because I preferr to fly a different delta, but she is WICKED fast. My more "normal" FJ is no longer around, the geese at my field made sure to take her out while she was coming around for landing. At 100 feet up, she broke apart on impact with the ground after sustaining (who knows what) damage from good old mother goose. I still have the guts for another build someday, but work has me extremely busy, and $$ is tight with 3 little ones to feed. I was running a 3000kv motor on 4s5000 with a Graupner 5.5x5.5 carbon prop at 150 mph.
akent, Do you know how to save files with ICE yet ?? Is there any way for you to attach your (.csv) file and send it to me for review ? I am very curious to see the performance of your motor, as it looks like the fan is trying to pull air to it from the prop side, and the FJ is trying to push air through it from the fan side. I hope I am wrong, but I would still love to review the ICE files from any flights you get.

Great post Mopar! BTW guys, I owe all my knowledge of Darkside Strykers and FJ's to Mopar. He is a moderator on the original Darkside threads. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us buddy! Keep posting! Gabe, I am sure that I wasnt the only one who helped you to fall victim to the speedy side, but thanks. Happy to help get our deltas running faster and faster. I havent had any time for flying, or even television these past few months, just work and family .....(I get to fly my helis' occasionally in my back yard every once in a while)........ hows the job on your end ??

You and Gryphon, that is. It's all due to you two.
Work is good! I typically have 3 days off a week, and I'll fly all 3 of them. The lightweight Stryker with the eflite six series is my daily driver. The Darksider is getting more time now that I have the bungie. And the FJ is no more due to an aileron failing on launch - go figure!

Whats your setup with the 6 series ?? Is it the 2700 or the 2000 motor ?? (I am hoping for an ICE ESC to show data )(we need a thumbs up smiley)
How do I place a pic from my computer as my avatar ?

I know it's sad, but that would have been awesome to see the geese causing Funjet trouble! The Typhoon 36mm motor is also pretty big! I have the rear plate removed, and the fan on the motor draws air out of the rear. With the plate removed, It allows a lot more air to flow through the airframe. Everything inside (except the battery) runs nice and cool. This motor is actually turning opposite of one in a helicopter... I haven't tried to save a CSV file. I have saved a graph. I posted one on page 7 in post 91: www.rchelitalk.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=darksideclub&thread=3460&page=7#32543Kent

How do I place a pic from my computer as my avatar ? If you upload an avatar to somewhere on the web (photobucket or similar), you can put a link to it by going to [profile] (at the top of every page) and then click on [modify profile]. Down that page is a place to put an avatar link. Kent

Mopar, I just took my ESC and downloaded the log data from it. Here is the CSV file. The last successful flights are on there. The crash should be towards the end. I was never able to stay in the throttle more than a couple of seconds. It gets too far away! I think if I could stay in it longer, the speeds would perhaps be higher. Kent Attachments:

Here's a picture of the typhoon motor without the rear plate from the inside in my first fast Funjet. There is a lot of room for airflow.

It's a little different than some forums!
At the top you should see something like, "Hey Moparmyway, you have nn messages, nn are new." You should be able to click on the "nn messages", to take you to the message area. Then once in the message area, you should see a tab for 'new message'. I'll send you one...then you can hit reply. Kent

Well, I had an interesting experience last weekend.
I flew the Funjet and just as I was on the final for landing, that was the last thing the receiver heard. Then it kind of looked like a jet with smoke coming out the rear! The thing landed itself pretty nicely, though! It bumped but not too hard.
I ran over and removed the canopy and the ESC had smoked. The Deans on the battery had completely melted off, too, but the battery is still good!
What's amazing is I sent the melted ESC to castle. The same day they received it, they sent me a new one at no cost! How amazing is that!
The only problem is that the new ICE 100 has a much larger case on it that won't fit in the Funjet. Well, I have another old style in my 600 heli. I'll swap those out and be in the air again!
I am most impressed with Castle! Kent

It's usually the other way around. Battery smokes and takes out everything with it. Castle is one of those suppliers that appreciates people are making a conscious decision to spend more, to get more, and rewarding them with great CS. That's the way it should be.
