I have never set a ESC up with the Tx before, so that I can not answer. But using the card is very simple and easy. Only takes 1 minute to setup your ESC. The card just makes setting up your timing, brake, battery type, cut offs, and start mode very easy. I guess you could do it with the Rx but would take quite a bit longer and more knowledge than I have.

Your ESC directions will have the procedure for adjusting settings via the Tx, but as everyone has pointed out...it's a real PITA. Is this the Rx you bought? www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14300Not many of us here use Futaba equipment and channel assignments are different between Futaba and Spektrum, but this is what I understand... Rear servo - Elevator - Ch2 Right front servo - Aileron - Ch1 Left front servo - Pitch - Ch6 Aileron and Pitch can be set to opposite channels (IE: Ail on Ch6 and Pitch on Ch1)...it really doesn't matter as the radio will take care of the mixing, but I like to choose one scenario and use it for all my builds. Makes it easier to trace wiring/servo problems down the road. Keep us posted.

Ronp glad to see your steppin up to cp heli's
Bt and I had a chat when that rx came out and we didn't know which one of us was going to try it first looks like you win LOL
the reason we didn't try it is because it is for an 8 channel radio and futabas site says 8 channel wont bind to our radios. I have the 6ex and bt has the 7c futaba neither is capable of binding with the 8 channel receiver but we weren't to sure about this clone if it works for you I'm getting two more of them

Yeah Sol that is the receiver that Ray suggested I use. After seeing Phil's post I hope it will work. I thought that Futaba was a good name in Transmitters the reason I wound up with it is that I surprisingly won an auction on EBAY. Didn't think I would ever get it for $61. I also didn't realize everyone was into the spectrum transmitters, My mistake. Sol what about the rear left servo the ESC and gyro, where do they go? Hey Phil I thought it was time to move up. Don't know how it will work out but with all the knowledge I have with all of you it should be fine. I guess when it's time to set up the TX I'll pick your and BT's brains. Understand I have no clue what so ever regarding the set up of all this stuff. I'm a mechanical guy so playing with the coax's was pretty easy. This stuff brings a whole new level to the hobby. I bought the program card last night. While I'm waiting what am I going to do with it?.. Thanks again guys......ron

Don't get the wrong idea, Ron. There's nothing wrong with Futaba stuff, it's just most of us here have Spektrum and are not familiar with all the differences. There's a lot of long time Futaba owners out there and they swear by their equipment. I thought I'd post up the link to that Rx you bought since there was some question as to whether or not it would be compatible to 6 and 7 channel radios. As Phil mentioned...you'll be the first to find out. You only have 3 servos handling your swash and where they are attached to the frame isn't their reference point. It's which part of the swash they handle. You have one rear and two front swash linkage attachment points...these are the reference points I mentioned in my last post and their respective channel assignments. Hopefully that made sense and I haven't confused the situation further. As far as where the ESC hooks up to the receiver, one of the Futaba guys will have to explain that. Or maybe a search through the Futaba site for any info on channel assignments.

Sol it is clear now, when you said the rear servo I was thinking the rudder servo. That's why I had asked about the other "left" servo. Thanks Phil it's a V2 I believe, if that helps. I really don't know the difference b/t pro, v2, sport ect. Gabe said the pro has a shaft drive. That makes sense

Ronp you have to program your esc and the esc comes with directions on how to do this with your tx thats ok if your into and counting beeps from the motor I find it difficult at best (tone deaf)
So then comes the programing card plug it in and then you choose what and how you would like the esc to run
Or even sing you a song when its loaded LOL
On a side note I am assuming that when you got this radio it has been wiped of all the models it had in it and everything set to default if so you need to reverse the throttle channel for some reason Futaba programs there throttle backwards

This is what Shakey has down for his build, is this correct? What does the program card do? Program card Brake = off Correct. Brake on is for planes.Battery type = Li-xx Correctcut off type = soft cut CorrectCut off voltage = High This is my preferenceStart up mode = very soft Correct. Less stress on the main gear.Timing mode = Middle Usually correct, depending on motor.Music = A/ Susanna [usa] Personal choice. Default is no music.Governor mode = Off - since this is an electric model. Correct, although some fly electric with governor set. Not necessary for you at this stage.Would these all be right? The ESC with the default settings will fly your heli, but the above choices are the best IMO and the programming card allows you to change the defaults.

Again to all the replies I say thanks much. When I get the RX I guess we will see if it is going to work. Do I need the RX to program the ESC or can I do it when I get the program card?

Yes you can program it when the card gets there it does not need to be in the heli

You can set your throttle points while you're waiting for the Rx to arrive. The ESC instructions should tell you how to do that. The motor needs to be hooked up to hear the beeps, so remove the main blades just in case something doesn't work exactly as it should.

Thanks again guys......ron I hope it does also Ron according to the feed back the 8 channel HK sell's is really a 7 channel Tower Hobbies claims that they will bind to any Futaba Fasst system that is what I went by when I found it. I do not have one either but tower hobbies has one 6 channel RX for $59. Ray
