O Boy I just got the new Heli Artist (Huey) Body in for my 450 it will have a DDVP and I think I will turn it into a Vietnam era Gun Ship. I bought one unpainted so I can do my own Mods to it and by removing all the belt drives, tail parts and other stuff I think with my own mounts I can save a little weight and gain some horse power for the main since it does not have to drive all the belts and pulleys for the elevated tail.. That sounds like a great project. How are you going to paint it?

It is a fiberglass body so I am going to paint it with an automotive quality paint. I am going to paint it to look like the Vietnam era olive drab gun ships.. Ray

That sounds awesome!
Raygun, I think you could easily sell a BL tail motor for this type of scale ship. The belt mods to get the tail up high are junk, at least the one I saw looked that way. I wouldn't want to trust it. With a BL motor on the tail running at WOT (rpm set by motor KV), it would be really easy to route a flexible cable up there for the pitch control.
That's going to be fun to see when you get going on that project. Please post pictures when you can. Kent

I'm expecting to see scale 20mm cannons with every third round a tracer. WP Rockets and a scale Jarhead (semper fi all) manning a scale 50 cal at the door. Of course the 50 cal would be functional.
Anything less, I wont believe ray did it.

For right now I am trying to get the main shaft square with the body I have seen a few built and because of the way the tail boom is installed it kicks up forcing the main shaft to tip forward. I dont like that so I will make a different boom mount and angle the boom up correctly since I dont have a belt it make's it much easyier. The rocket launchers and other weapons will come later with a video camera on-board as well Ray

We don't necessarily want to see pics of you...just the heli, Ray. Well that is just fine now I know how Dave feels ..... Wait a minute what am I thinking things could never be that bad ..... Anyway I just machined a new motor mount out of aluminum. It takes up a lot less space than a stock one it is definitely stronger. There is not much room in the tail section but there is a ton of room in the body.. Most of the ones I have seen built they have to off set the tail to get enough room for the bell crank and stuff mine will be centered it probably wont fly any better but it will look good standing still!!! Just for a update before the photos I have come a long way the tail boom mount is new the kick up to the elevated tail is new and the DDVP is made tested and mounted as well. I made all the parts and with everything mounted it is 10 grams lighter than the stock belt system and stronger. I am at a stand still however I need a CF Sullivan flex cable and everyone seems to be out so to keep Doozer happy I am working on the 7.62mm mini gun and the rocket launcher as well. I also re-made the body mount to something stronger and now after everything is mounted I will tear it down and paint the body then re-assemble.. Ray
