Yeah, you're going to need an AMA card if you fly at any organized club.
The purpose of AMA is to set safety and operational rules and guidelines for clubs. This has prevented many accidents. They also lobby in the hobby's interest. They were right on the case when the FAA were revising their rules in regards to model aviation this year. Yeah, it's still a quasi bureaucracy, but you get a nice magazine each month with some nifty articles and pictures. They also have a great museum. I'd like to visit there one day.
My dad was a charter AMA member and I was a junior member when I was a kid. I lost my card and when I decided to renew it a few years ago I found out all their old records had burned up in a fire in the 70's so I couldn't get my old number. The old number had sentimental value.

I like the L'il Tony, but the video was a bust. All smack and very little flying. I was anxious to see the actual race.

Ah, much better. You can definitely tell the 4 stroke in that mish-mash. Anxious to hear your gasser when she's ready.

They even said the four stroke was the fastest out of all of them I want one... someday. Rotomotor 35FS 35cc Four Stroke www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/ROTO35FS.htmlI looked for a video of it running like they said there would be but I guess they haven't uploaded it yet. I found this one: Also check this out: So here's my list in order of importance: 1. Get the Pitts finished 2. Cermark Gee Bee R3 (Electric) 3. Shoestring EF1 4. TBM Gee Bee R3 5. Li'l Toni I have a couple of O.S. 50 Hypers layin around ... not that I really want a nitro bird, but it might be cool.... I need another job, or to win the lottery. Kent and all his voodoo fast airplane talk!

Fun stuff, Doozer!
Hey, your Shoestring built up to E-F1 legal specs will blow the socks off of any of the planes in the videos you posted! No contest!
Here's a video of one of the heats down here:
They are pretty FAST! The pylons here are 400 feet apart! Kent

lol... you're not nice ;D
The only thing I don't like about it is the power system, but that can be changed easy enough I suppose.

That Pitts looks great, but I still am gun shy with Banana. Not yet.
Did any of you get your R3's?
If so, be sure to: 1. De-burr the aluminum wing tube. It can come with burrs that can cause it to wedge into the wing tubes. 2. Check that the servos are glued in well. 3. It is a good idea to replace the aileron/rudder/elevator horns. The stock ones are only glued to one side of the control surfaces. It is better to have some that attach on both sides. 4. The elevator control rod is a little weak. It helps a bunch to put a carbon tube around it.
As you will find out, the ailerons need a TON of throw and the elevator VERY LITTLE. I found it odd that the ailerons are so ineffective. The rudder also takes very little throw to make it knife edge. I think the airfoil on the landing gear helps with knife edge!
Just some things to think about. Kent

The R3 came yesterday. Never had any tracking info. I haven't opened it yet. Thanks for the tips kent. I keep having good luck with BH. I am very careful which planes I order. It really is a case of the good, bad and the truely carpy. I wouldnt buy the Pitts either at this point. I'd want to see some buyer reviews first.

I've got to order my Gee Bee still. I'm just waiting until the Christmas/dental dust settles. I want to put some time on my Pitts before I get another bipe. The Banana Hobby Pitts looks pretty cool. I just don't want a fleet of electrics. The Shoestring and the Cermark Gee Bee are going to be my only electric planks. I would prefer everything else be gas or nitro. I have a few O.S. 50 Hypers I wan't to use too.... I wouldn't buy from Banana Hobby. They have a horrible BBB record. Banana and Zhobby (xheli/nitroplanes) both lost their BBB accreditation in this year. Surprise
