Nice!
Toss up some pics if you can. At least of the finished product. You'll be a mod junkie after this!

Yeah just looking at the mods that you did and what is available I think this will be the start of a long project of upgrading. Just hope the wife doesn't get mad with all the extra bits I will end up buying, already spent a fair bit on the hobby and just starting out really!! Hoping to get the frame this week and then maybe the motor next week or week after. Will put up pics of fibre frame and how easy this type is to put together. I think it is different to the one you used doozer. Got it at KA planes.

I got my original frame from KA. I just didn't get the belt tail from them. There really are many ways to go with this mod. Brushless motors, 380 motor, direct drive tail, belt tail... Its really up to how much you want to spend. I'm lucky in the fact that I don't have a wife to answer to. I just feed my kids Ramen and buy my heli parts I'm making an assumption about the radio you use here, but before you start modding too much, save up your money and get a good radio. Makes a huge difference. DX6i's are about as much as an inexpensive RTF CCPM Heli. It's $179 on certain sites and some places you can get free shipping. I'm not saying to get that one, that's just the one I know. There are others that are just as good for about as much. There are things that you can program into some higher end radios that you can't do with a run of the mill RTF heli Tx. Then flying gets really fun because all of a sudden you've taken some of the mechanical imperfections out of the mix... and your helicopter will actually do what you ask of it. When you buy the radio, start hidding your tools from yourself because you'll want to pawn them for heli stuff. ;D

Hey Doozer,
Funny meeting you here (along with all the other familiar names). Q: Where did you get the direct drive tail?

I found the direct drive at KA-Planes for about $9, not too bad. You should be able to get it from any place that sells HB parts, well most anyway. Don't think xheli has it though. Also thought I would add that KA-Planes are awesome with their shipping. Ordered Sunday evening and got it today from Florida to Connecticut. Nice and quick and good prices.

Thanks Doozer! I saw that and went right past it not realizing what it was. Does it make much difference for the HBFP?

I thought about doing that first, but I went straight for the belt tail instead. So I really have no experience with it. I used a direct drive tail on one of my Walkera 4#3B's, and really prefer it. No gears to slip off, and I'm sure its got to be easier on the motor.
It looks like a great upgrade and probably a money saver in the long run!

Will the Walkera metal head fit an HBFP if you use the Walkera shaft? Can one even do that? I really like the idea that the head and shaft are 2 pcs, seems like a better design overall than the 1 pc made for the HBFP.

As long a s the shaft is a 3mm (wide)... I'm sure you could. I've contemplated doing that myself. However, the blade grips will be different on the Walkera Head. I'm pretty sure that means buying their blades... unless I'm mistaken. The HBFP stock shaft is 70 mm, you can buy, at KA-Planes, the 75 mm and the 80 mm shafts if you need to have them longer for the walkera head. www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/31122www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/26525

I am upgrading my HBFP also. Decided to go a different route though. I ordered the Compy kit to put the uhhh, well, I guess I am building a new fixed pitch. I ordered the "deluxe" kit here www.aero-fever.net/product_info.php?cPath=19&products_id=641I also ordered a bunch of HTX900 servos and a digital servo for the tail from Hobbyking.com. To save on shipping I got a brushless 450 motor and a 25a esc/bec combo at the same time along with a spektrum 6100 rx. I already have a xmhobbies g401b gyro for it so I should be set. I haven't been to concerned about weight with the 450 motor, should have good head speed to get it off the ground even if I carve out some Popsicle sticks for blades Really, I'm so new to this flying thing a 1 min hover for me is outstanding. I'm sure I made some mistakes on my orders, but will cross that bridge when I need to - remember the movie Deliverance..... Dave

Yeah about the deliverance thing...I remember some stuff off that movie and can't say it has much to do with building RC heli's...... . Just messing with ya! That kit looks pretty good. What was the shipping cost to get that stuff to the states?? Trying to get the directory updated as I go so let me know how this place is and how you would rate them, just send me a PM with the update if you could. Thanks.
