Geez, I can't believe it's only been a year since you started with the HBFP, BT. Seems like we've been gone from RCDiscuss for eons. ...or I'm getting old faster. "Time flies when you're having fun." And I think you're right about it going faster the older you get. That's not such a good thing. Kent, Even if it cuts into your flying time you must admit it's going to be great to have your shorline back and your boats in the water. There are all kinds of floats out there for your planes, so get busy. Weather's been crap here.

That's a bummer about your weather. Here's a picture of this afternoon down by our dock. There is some space to fly behind me to the left and right, and maybe 100 feet to the tree line, but it's nothing like the HUGE area that was there before. Attachments:

That's incredible. What a difference a year makes. I really enjoyed the river when I was in Austin. We're into a similar, but not quite as drastic a change here. We're waiting for the spring melt and that will have mixed blessings. There will probably be floods on the rivers, not so good, and the lakes will rise, that's much better, because some of the lakes were so low the last few years you couldn't even get a pontoon boat out from the dock. Wishing us all a good boating season this year...And, don't forget the floats for your planes.

The days started getting faster and faster since I hit 40. So you are saying it gets worse?
BTW, I get another neck shot tomorrow, so hold on to your hats. No telling what I'll post tomorrow ;D My wife said she is going to hide my phone, but she can't hide all the computers ;D

I flew a couple of paper airplanes today at school for about a half an hour behind the substitute teachers back. It was alot of fun. One landed right on the teachers desk all of us were like oh sh!t. But the teacher just threw it back to us. And we continued flying. ;D
I did fly my g2 at home in between the rain.

Darn, BT I was looking forward to a few extra laughs. R/C, you had a pretty cool sub. Took the Enticement for a test fly. Didn't really fly it in the Gym. Just pushed it around enough to know I'm going to need more thrust and less speed for indoors. Took my wife too. She had a ball flying her 53#1. Put her on the trainer cord with the vapor and she did pretty good excet she was a little confused with the right stick. She kept thinking "forward", like with her heli, with the right stick which of course is nose in. Once she got that down it was all "Ohhhs and Ahhhs".

The big thaw is on here in MN. Almost all the snow is gone so I took a quick trip over to one of the soccer fields after an earlier stop by the LHS. It was very soggy and plenty windy. I didn't have floats on the helis so I didn't even bother taking them. This was the first time on grass since early December. This has been a LONG winter. Too windy for the Enticement. I tried taking the PKZ Corsair off from the grass, but all I got was a short roostertail from the wheels and a nose over for my efforts. No surprise. I had to try it though. I launched the Corsair underhanded. I don't do that often and I'm a little out of practice. Surprisingly, it went well as did the flight considering the wind. The PKZ Corsair does this little shimmy in the wind. I have heard a number of reasons and cures for it, but haven't found anything that made enough sense to me to pursue, so I just live with it. A friend stopped by to chat so I suspended the flying. By this time the wind was up enough to practically rip the P51 our of my hand anyway. A good day. Got some parts I needed and the first Spring fly in as well. Hope you all had a good day too.

Dube posted a weather site on another thread and I was following it and it seemed accurate for the winds at my house. The wind was varying between 6-8 mph. Nice flying winds. What was to happen in the next hour was very curious. I drove over to the HS soccer field a little over a mile away. The wind is always higher there than at the house because, presumably, of the increased elevation at the school. The wind was at least 4-7 mph faster. The wind was blowing 12-15 at ground level and seemed much higher as I watched the Corsair get blown completely sideways a couple of times 50 or so feet up and then settle down a bit as she got lower. There was a definite wind sheer going on. The P51 cut through the wind like a hot knife through butter, but rattled a bit going through that same approximate altitude that shook the Corsair. The P51's downwind speed had to be in excess of 80 mph giving me a good preview how the new power I'm installing is going to look on a calm day. I put the Black Hawk up at about 40 ft. just to see if I could tell exactly where the wind sheer was at. That wasn't high enough. I took it to about 60 ft., holding it into the wind so that it remained fairly stationary over the same spot, and she immediately started trucking downwind fast, a good 10 plus mph faster that at the altitude of just about a foot or so lower. I flew through that layer a couple of times just to see if it would repeat itself. It did. I've never seen sheer happen quite that pronounced before or have a sheer stay at the same altitude for any period of time. Has that happened to any of you?

Got the Habu and the Stryker in the air today at the park. Winds were pushing 15 mph on my last few flights on the Stryker. With those 4S batteries though, you don't really notice.
A few cool notes though: I came in upwind on a landing and actually hovered high alpha style, a few feet off the ground, just cause the wind was so strong.
Second, I stuck that 6.5x5.5 apc prop on the stryker with a 4S battery for half a flight. Holy moly that thing scooted. I think I picked up an extra 10mph. Didn't go too long cause I still don't have a heat sink on there yet.
Good RC day.

Very cool. I've got to build one of those things... Have you read about anyone using the motor from the Typhoon 3D? secure.hobbyzone.com/search/PKZ4116.html I've got a spare one looking for a new home.

The Stryker motor for the F-27C is an 1800 KV brushless inrunner. The motor in question is 3700KV. It appears to be much stronger. I would stay with a 3S on that one. From what I've been reading, the higher the KV the lower the cells on the battery. Lower KV=higher cells. I would say give it a whirl, then give us your report
