Today we do the R/C class at the school for the 5-6th graders. We'll be using a couple of Vapors donated by Hobbyzone and DX5e's on trainer cords. I'll be teaching the "ground school" class and be one of the pilot instructors. We'll have 2 pilot instructors, with one instructor backup, 1 repair guy, a photographer and a couple of our own Vapors in case the flying gets brutal. I'm excited. Will let you all know how it goes. Thats sounds cool. I wish my school had that when I was in 5th and 6th grade.

Thats sounds cool. I wish my school had that when I was in 5th and 6th grade. Well, it was a blast for everyone involved. The kids, parents and us, the instructors. We started with a really good presentation from a WW II pilot. He flew a B26 and was part of the attack on Utah beach on D Day. After 66 combat missions he had a long career with Northwest Airlines and flew everything from a DC4 to 747. He amassed about 30,000 hrs before he retired at 60 in 1982. The flying was a lot of fun. Of course the kids picked it up pretty quickly. We had 9 students; 7 guys and two girls. I taught the group with the 2 girls. Guess who picked it up the quickest...Yep, the girls. With 10 mins of practice they were able to take off, fly in a controlled circle change, directions and land. The first few mins were pretty hilarious though. The first girl landed on the heating vents about 30ft up and the second girl landed it in a window sill about 12 ft. up.

There were a lot of other details about our WWII pilot's adventures, but just too much to post here.
I'm lucky enough to have an uncle, still alive and kicking, and I mean KICKING, that flew A26's in the Pacific during WWII. He was only about 50 miles from Nagasaki flying a mission when the BOMB was dropped. The stories are incredible. He then flew A26's in Korea and then flew Radar support for our pilots in Nam from Thailand. As if that weren't enough he went on to became a test pilot at Edwards dropping the "X" planes from a B52. When he retired from the AF he spent another 10 years at NASA in the Space Shuttle progam at the Cape. What a career. What a life.

Gabe, that Stryker looks cool. I always wanted a pusher jet. RC at school is cool!
Here's a vid of my first piro flip attempts w/ the EXI 500. Just before this flight, I tried it on the EXI 450 pro. That was flight #3 for the pro, flips were alternatively good and bad but at least I tried it for the first time.
I need to adjust the tail piro rate on the gyro and tx. My piro rate is not consistant and part of what's messing me up. I think I'll also work on making half piro flips finish at the right points, then go back and string multiple half piro flips in sucession tyring to minimize the hold time between flips.

Nice piro flips ditch, very nice. I stopped trying those in real-life, at least for a while.

Went out for a quick fly out on the ice road before we head out to the daughter's for the 3X B'day celebration. Bummer. The ice road was like broken glass. People had been running through the slush yesterday and it had frozen over during the night. Was even afraid to fly the helis because a bad touch down would have resulted in a tip over and probably some nicked up blades. The days of the ice road are numbered for this season. BooHOO. Well, at least it's a sure sign of spring.

Beautiful day today. Took the msr outside cause it was waaaaarrrrmmm, and it was not windy. Just a little breeze to make things interesting. 69 degrees, sunny and some good flying.Only wrecked one time when I slammed into a pine tree when I decided to see how high it would go. It started drifting to the top of the tree. (very tall pine tree) The wind apparently was stronger up there and i just couldn't steer away from the top branches. I cut the throttle and it plummeted. As it got below the branches I tried to throttle up and save it. It flew full speed into the trunk of the tree. Walked over and picked it up, blew the dead pine needles out and flew it till the battery died. I love that thing.

Perfect ending to a beautiful day Not going to get up on the soap box, yet again, but everybody try to stay away from trees and buildings when you're flying. Air currents do funny, maybe not so funny things, around them and even more so as the structures get taller. Reminds me of one story, maybe BT's, along time ago, his usually stick with me ;D, when he got his heli at roof level and it just took off over to visit the neighbors yard. Shucks Glad it turned out good for you fire and jealous because it was a soggy mess here today.

I've had to make more than one visit to that neighbor's yard to get the HBFP back ;D I was talking with some guys at work who where egging me on to take my 450 up today (gusts up to 30 mph, rain and possible hail ) One of them said, "You mean you can't control it in the wind?" My response was that I could probably control the right and left, but at that wind level, God controls altitude

Forecast calls for steady winds between 20 and 30 mph with 45 mph gusts. I don't think I will be flying for the next day or so

That's too bad, BT! I took this afternoon off and flew all the foamies as well as the 500. I was really close to flying the L-39, but I talked myself out of it after I flew everything else. It was 76 degrees, 5-10mph winds (closer to 5 most of the time) and it was beautiful!
My neighbors have their boats back in the water, so they came over to watch me fly! I think at least a couple might want to learn to fly! My wife will soon be bugging me to get our boats running. Bummer as that cuts into flying time!
But the flying area down by the lake has SHRUNK! All the rain we have had has the lake up to within a foot of normal!! I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.
I need to build some foamie floaties for these things! Then I need to figure out how to waterproof the electronics so I can fly over the lake! Kent

Kent, pull the stopper on that lake like you did last year ;D Beautiful day here, but it was pretty windy. 10 to 20 with 30 mph gusts according to my neighbors weather instrumentation.
Bad time of year for learning something new. Seems like I had this problem last year when I was trying to learn the HBFP....

Geez, I can't believe it's only been a year since you started with the HBFP, BT. Seems like we've been gone from RCDiscuss for eons. ...or I'm getting old faster.
