Just thought I'd throw this in... Anyone that doesn't feel up to taking the time to build one of these, I found a site that'll sell a kit, electrics excluded. This is an F35, but is almost identical to Kent's F22. www.midwestfoamplanes.com/products/f35.phpNice kit for 20 bucks. Or, painted for 40.

Misc: That is cheap for the F35 kit!
Thanks 19k for the power info. I ordered one of those motors from Grayson! The kv sounds just about perfect for going fast!
For anyone building these with hot glue, make sure the gun can do low heat. High heat can melt the foam.
Welders glue works really well, but it takes longer than hot glue. I have used both and I went back to hot glue only.
Filament type strapping tape works well for hinges. I also have some 3M medical tape that works well. Almost anything that sticks well to the EPP will work.
I cut a motor mount from thin plywood that is then glued to the foam.
I painted the Yak after it was built. I painted the F22 before it was built.
With the F22, I am using the longest servo arm at the outer holes. The horn on the elevon's are cut off plastic ones shoved into the foam and glued. I have the linkages in the inner hole nearest the foam. This gives maximal throws. I am running +50 expo. You might want to start out with less throw. I couldn't do high alpha until I increased the throws like this.
I have the CG about 1" in front of the motor mount, or between the motor mount and carbon rod. This is very stable. If I move the CG rearwards 1/2" or so, it really likes high alpha! I think there is more experimenting to do with this.
Have fun! Kent

Which one you building, BT? The 24" or the 32"? There's also plans for a 16", but I think that's a bit too small. I found a Canadian supplier for EPP, but they want a ton of cash for their products. I may have to go to the US and pay the higher shipping, unless something else comes up. Got a sheet of EPP for $12.00 at Hobby Town today. I got so many things in today I don't know where to begin though. Too many toys! No, that was a foolish and rash statement. There can never be too many toys ;D I'm building the 24" Sol. I am going to try to throw some business my LHS owner's way. He has a small place and has always been good at suppling info and extra parts. I think he carries a couple of motor choices. Got to get another RX, too. That's the part that hurts .

BTW, Call me a noob, but what is Welder's Glue and where do you get it?

Hey Kent thanks for the additional info. Hope you like that power combo. It worked great in the F117. Glad you're into supporting the LHS BT. I do that too. Gotta keep them around for those instant gratification moments. Too many projects? In a word: IMPOSSIBLE! To little time: Yes, but never too many projects. Funny, my wife just accused me of that. The nerve! Just because our house looks like an overstocked hobby shop doesn't mean I have too many projects.

Hey BT, that's a great price for EPP from your LHS. From Grayson, it's 8 bucks a sheet, and then you have shipping on top of that, so it's not far from that price! Welders can be found at Lowes. Probably at Home Depot too, but I found mine at Lowes. It comes in a package with two red tubes. I keep a tube in my flight box for field repairs. It takes a half hour to an hour to dry. It makes a very strong and flexible joint. Kent Attachments:

A couple more little things that might help: If you have an OLD soldering iron, they work great for burying the carbon tubes in the foam. I cut off the tip of an old one I had to make it fatter. I then lay a ruler on the foam and run the iron along it. I can change the width of the slot somewhat by the angle of the iron. This is covered somewhere on rcgroups, I think. It makes the slot stronger than cutting the slot as you don't lose any material. Be sure to practice with scraps of the foam after you cut the model out. After melting the slot, I usually use Welders in the slot, if it's very long. With short slots, I just put hot melt in it and stick the carbon in there. === RCPowers has a video on how to cut the angles of the control surfaces and applying hinge tape there. This method works great!
I'm sorry if you all have already found all of this stuff...

Half the cost of the plane.

Hey Kent. Don't suppose I could talk you out of a few more pics of your motor mount setup? I got a motor today that is simular in size to yours. I want to have a better idea of what I want to do before I fit in in.
