I decided I might as well play with some more power for the Stryker. I'm not going all out like Gabe did, but I thought it might be fun to have a little more speed! I bought the Turnigy 2836-2350kv motor from Hobby City: www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7993I bought a spare motor mount for the Stryker from Hobby Town. Once I threaded the motor wires through the front of the mount, and slid the motor on in, it mounted with two screws. The other two didn't line up. I think two is enough for this! It sure feels solid. I did use loctite. I may drill out the other holes in the mount at some point. The motor spins freely in the mount, without any mods at all! It is REALLY close all the way around, but it doesn't touch anywhere! There isn't much clearance at all! The spinner is one I found from Hobby City. The prop adapter that comes with the motor is just not as pretty. I also have a 40 amp ESC to use with this. It will be fun to see how the plane reacts! One of the feedbacks for this motor said that it was drawing over 400 watts of power with the stock 6x4 Parkzone prop! I also have a 6.5x5.5 and a 7x5 on order to try at some point. Here's a few pictures: It should be fun! Kent

Nice installation Kent. I don't know anything about the strength of the mount, but I'd want to add those other two mounting holes in case the motor wants to torque twist or bend. Since there isn't much clearance around the motor it might not take much of a twist or bend to contact the mount. Just a thought. Looking forward to your report on how this combo works. I'm eyeing the same set up.

Whoah! Nice Kent! If you are in the market for mounts that are proven to work, try: www.customrcparts.com Gary is the owner and most of the guys that build the Darkside Strykers (100mph +) use his mounts. His store mounts for almost every type of motor. Mine just came in the mail yesterday. I haven't opened it up yet, but I know the bolt pattern is much stronger.

Installed the 28mm motor mount from Custom RC Parts today - along with the E-Flite Six Series motor, AND my 6x5.5 APC prop. I also was having issue with turning this beast in mid air so I slapped longer servo horns on the JR servos I just installed. I've got all the linkages maxed out now: My paint job isn't as fresh as it used to be. Removing the tape from the underside stripped it right off. OK - flight test: Way faster than before. I need a radar gun because I'm estimated a solid 80-85 no questions asked. I'm still having issues turning at full speed. I've notice though, that its only when I give it right stick. I also noticed that my thumb tends to give a little down elevator when I push the stick hard right. Maybe its user error. I'm not super sure. Either way, the little booger screams!

Gabe, you might be getting some bend in the cortrol rod. If so, add some control rod supports

Threw the 4S in there today with the 6x5.5 prop - holy cow! I was giggling outloud on the first high speed pass. I must be close to 100mph! The sound is extremely high pitched too. I haven't smiled like that from flying in a while. Too cool.
I think the foam is actually deflecting where the elevon connects. I put a little pressure on it while holding the Stryker and there was a lot if flex in the connections. It's time for balsa and cf tubing.

That's awesome, Gabe!!
And that mount looks really nice.
I will get the second set of mounting screws to work with this motor. You are right, 19k! No shortcuts!
I guess if the stock mount fails, then I'll build another Stryker with that mount. The stock mount feels strong enough though, even with only two screws.
I hope to have this mounted and ready to fly by tomorrow! Now, if the weather will just cooperate... Kent

It should be fine, Kent. I would check it for stress cracks after the first few flights. Maybe even take it up the first time, run a pass at wot, land, and check her out. If all is good, finish of the pack and check it again. If it's still good - the rest is history.
Better safe than sorry.

I agree with Gabe Kent, I think the stock mount is going to be OK for your build. I'm going to use it for mine as well and upgrade if I go with the bigger power. I think you're correct about the time being right to add the balsa elevons and CF Gabe. I'd still suggest the control rod support since if the flexing is taking place in the elevon area and you eliminate the flexing there the stress is going to be transferred back to the control rod and then back to the servo. Did you go to MG servos yet?

I know that the Darkside boys have some suggestions on control rods too. They have a recommendation for thick ones that don't flex. The servos I bought weren't metal geared, but they are really nice JR servos that were $35 a pop. I think they are OK for now. Any faster though and without a doubt I need MG's. For the 140+ Stryker, that's a no brainer for me.

Well, I didn't have the guts to put the power in the Stryker for today. I have all the parts staring at me though!
I flew the Stryker a bunch today stock, and man it sure flies nice. I LOVE that thing!

Let me know if you lose some control of the roll when your at WOT with the new motor. I'm curious to see if the issue is related to just my setup alone.

Will do, Gabe.
I can tell you though that with stock power, and probably 80+mph out of a dive, I have no trouble at all with control. I do have it setup to where it will roll WOT at probably 3-4 per second. I have not tried a full throw loop, as I'm afraid it will rip the elevons off at WOT! It will loop pretty tight at 1/2 throttle. I have done several WOT huge loops! These are beautiful, too. The diameter is probably at least 500 feet, as a guess. I like to start straight at maybe 20 feet off the deck, do a HUGE loop that goes way up there and then end it at the same 20 feet up! All at WOT! The unlimited vertical with the speed and handling this thing has is just amazing.
