From what I've read on the Darkside threads, the prop unloads at higher speeds, and the wattage load on the motor drops. Or maybe it's the motor that unloads with smaller props.
Either way, if you prop up you will get more thrust at higher speeds.

Thanks all! I will definitely try the 6x5.5 prop. I have a couple on the way, if I remember right. Thanks Gabe. I have a large number of 3s batteries and the ones I am running in the Stryker are the same as I run in the 450. I hate to invest in a whole new series of battery. I think for now I'll stick with 3s. The prop I was running is the Parkzone 6x4. These are not that stiff, either. I am running the APC 6x4E on the F-22, though. I have some other 6x4's on the way from HC. I don't remember the brand. I made a few half throttle passes yesterday and the radar showed around 70. That's amazing. A huge amount of rpm more at WOT only netted another 10mph. Something is keeping is slow. Heck, it spun high enough to make the Parkzone prop come apart! If I can hit 90 with this thing, I'll be happy with this one. Oh, and the motor comes down cool. I think there is room to push it harder for sure. Kent If you've got the prop right, then maybe it's the battery that's holding it back. I would think a 30C 3S would help reach the motors potential.

I am running fairly new '30-40C' 2200 3s Turnigy's now. These have amazing pop with the 450. I have four of these now, shared between my 450 heli, this plane and the Ultimate bipe. All of my year+ old Zippies have puffed and/or lost capacity. They still work, but they are 'not the same' to fly with as these new high C batteries!
It's also not the lack of rpm! You can clearly hear the thing scream at full throttle. It just doesn't go much faster!
Maybe the prop is flattening out? I don't know.
I do have a 6x5 mounted on there now. I'll hopefully get to radar that one this weekend. I also have 6x5.5 APC's on order. They should be here next week.
I just need to spend some time with these things. There are measurements that can be made that I just haven't done yet. Ugh. Kent

If you're using a sport prop it shouldn't flatten out. Or, maybe the outrunner isn't spinning as fast as you think it is. It's my understanding inrunners are better for this application. It will be interesting to hear how the measurements go.
BTW, I'm watching a movie called "The Hunters", 1958, with some really nice F-86 footage. One guess on what plane is in the near future for me. ;D

It may not be going much faster, but I bet you scored a little on the vertical. There should be a definite increase in thrust. If not...4S....4S...4S....
They are calling to you, Kent.

You know, Gabe, every time I do something to this thing, it has better vertical! That part is very true! It's interesting that you say that! With the 6x5 prop this weekend, half throttle was hitting low 70's. With that, unlimited vertical! It was just odd that you could buzz the runway with a low rpm sound, point it up and it would be GONE in a few seconds! I love this thing. I just need to get over trying to go really fast with it. Right now, the one radar speed I did get yesterday was 86 in a straight line. That's pretty fast. Maybe EDF's are a lot faster! Well, for sure they are a LOT more steamlined. The Stryker reminds me of pushing the front of a bus through the air, relative to those pointy things with skinny wings! The Stryker though is THE most amazing thing I have ever flown. It still amazes me at it's range, that it can go 80+mph, then also 5mph without stalling! That's amazing. Kent

It's not like HL usually raises prices. It might be here yet this week. I expect this plane will fly very well. I'm not expecting this plane to be really good at super slow speeds. The swept wing and relatively low wing area probably will prevent that, but you never know. Anyway, it's not supposed to fly slow. It's supposed to fly fast and shoot down those pesky Migs. BTW, HL has a Mig coming. Now if I only had another pilot to duel with... ;D

Well, it's 10 bucks more now, and I just ordered one, too!
I like the design, and I like that it's foamie that has spare parts. If I remember right, a total of all foam pieces is 60 bucks. Not bad!
I like it! Thanks, 19k!

Nice! 86 in a straight line is pretty darn fast for that puppy!
Still by far my favorite toy as well.
