I was at my LHS today and bought a Hyperion CX G3 battery. It was 3.7V 1S 160 mAh 25C. For $7.99 it is a bargain for what I consider a primo battery. I took it home, charged it up and ran a load through my mCX and another one through my mSR. The time was a bit over 6 minutes. The power was quite nice, and I think I will get a few more. It sure beats the price of the E-Flite batteries. I hadn't flown the mCX in a while and it was a lot of fun. I had forgotten what a great little heli it is! If you haven't flown yours recently, dust it off and go for it! How long ago did the mCX hit the market? 1 1/2, or 1 3/4 years maybe? It is still a great starter heli.

I got the msr to do loops and flips! Only mods are a sukhoi xp motor, custom swash and Hyperion 130mah, the rest is all stock. Best to watch vid in 720p HD fullscreen

Here's a tune up vid that goes over common problems and how to fix them. Hopefully this might help any msr owners.

Good stuff, slofly. I've heard of people managing to do loops and flips with their mSR's, but never actually have seen one do any.
Maybe you can list your source for those upgrade parts and pricing for those that would be interested.

Great vids there slofly and thanks for the tips. Hope you don't mind that I did a little editing so the vids show up here on the forum.
By the way welcome to RC Heli Talk also.

Nice stuff. I'm waiting for an XP motor. Horizon's been out of stock quite awhile. It's supposed to be in in a week last I checked.

My msr is almost all stock, I do have the sukhoi xp motor, a custom swash that is a hybrid of the stock short arm swash with the bearing and upper swash from a microheli se swash (This gives more travel than any other swash on the market and has been very reliable for me) and I use a Hyperion 130mah. That's all, the rest is all stock. You would think it's a highly modded msr but nope. I have been in contact with the Horizon Hobbies and the Blade team trying to convince them to come out with a msr pro or msr xp version. It would be easy for them to make this version and it seems they are interested so who knows, maybe we will see a msr pro or xp sometime in the future! The xp motor puts out over 50 grams of thrust in the msr (comparable to the thrust of a modified brushless set up) so it makes high performance flying a bit easier. That motor with the hybrid swash is hell on blades, extremely fast, extremely agile and very fun. I rarely fly it indoors anymore, I enjoy it much more outdoors where you can unleash it's full potential. It also does very well in the wind, we had a storm roll through and couldn't resist, the wind was blowing hard so I broke out the msr, here's what happened www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmrZjpisNCE

Wow! I am impressed! I would like more details on your mods; especially on the custom swashplate. In fact, this would be a good candidate for a full Mod article complete with photos. More please!

The swash is a hybrid of a stock short arm swash with the bearing and upper from a microheli se swash. It was pretty easy to make, first I remove the bearing from stock swash, then I cut the arms of the stock swash about 2-3mm shorter with a razor blade and ca back together. Then I remove the bearing and upper from the microheli se swash and press it into the stock short arm swash (both bearing are same size). It's like having a MH se swash with shorter arms.
The xp motor is easy to do as well. First I plug the motor into 5n1 and get it running full throttle while holding motor with your fingers. Then I take a metal nail file and press it to the pinion gear to shave the teeth down a tad. Then deburr the teeth with a jewelers file or fine sandpaper folded. Install the motor and give it a few flights to break the pinion in. You will notice some binding of the gear mesh at first but after a few flights the binding is gone and the mesh is like stock, this is all normal cause of the extra tooth on the xp motor, just need maybe 5 flights to break it in properly. With the xp motor you can use bigger batteries for extra flight time, I use a 320mah and get flights past 12 minutes. It also works well with scale bodies or FPV cameras.

Great job Slofly!!!
This is VERY impressive!
I do have some 160ma Turnigy batteries. These are great, but are a little on the heavy side for the stock bird. Mo powah! I like it!
I'll have to keep my eyes open for that motor!
I did a few loops with my original MSR, with the only mods being the swash short pins and maxed out servo travels on high rate on the DX7. I wore that heli out. (5:1 finally got tired - it wouldn't fly for more than 15 seconds on any battery, lots of slop in everything, cracked everything.) It was cheaper to buy a new one.
My MSR #2 won't loop. I think it has a different setup. It has less power than my other one, too. There are quite a few different parts on it. They upgraded several things.
Maybe with these mods, it will have new life!!
Thanks!!! Kent

Where's the string holding that up to the ceiling? Good pics, BT. Not sure I could do pics and fly at the same time. Well done. It's a tough little heli, but likely not Mojo-proof.

String? ;D Do you know how hard it is to push the button when you have the camera on a string? I sat on the couch, watched TCU win the Rose Bowl and practiced landing on a DVD case on the floor. Now that is a challenge. The turbulence when I got close floated that little thing all over. Give it a try. BTW, the Tenergy batteries are already starting to crap out (maybe 5 flights on each). I'll have to pick up some of the Turnigy or Hyperion ones soon enough.
